This week’s Person of the Week is a Michigan State Police Trooper in Cadillac who received a Life-Saving Award.

Almost a year ago, Trooper David Skorka saved the life of a suicidal teen — and just last month, he received a Life-Saving award.

Upon arriving at the scene, Skorka — with the help of a family member — was able to save the teen and check for a pulse.

Shortly after, Skorka began to perform CPR until EMS arrived.

Once EMS was on scene, they attached their equipment and found a pulse. The teen was then taken to Munson Medical Center in Manistee where he began to breathe on his own.

For his quick action in a life or death situation, Trooper David Skorka receives this week’s title of Person of the Week.

If you know of someone who’s working hard in their own community, creating something new in the area, or just affecting northern Michigan in their own special way and you’d like to nominate them — send an email to news@minews26.com.

Tell us who you’d like to nominate for the person of the week, why you think they should receive that title, and how we can reach them — Each week, we’ll broadcast one of these nominees as the “Person of the Week.”
